The Gynaecology Department of the SCB Medical College Hospital here is fast turning out to be a safe haven for baby lifters. While umpteen number of baby missing cases have been reported from here in the past, hospital as well as local law enforcing agencies seem to be casual to this menace as one more baby was found missing from the department on Wednesday.
Although, no FIR has been registered in this connection till this report was filed, the local Mangalabag police confirmed the report of a seven-day-old baby boy went missing from the hospital. Police said they are waiting for a written complaint to register a case in this connection.
Sources said one Hara Patra of neighbouring Dhenkanal district had brought her nephew to the hospital for giving polio drops this afternoon. Introducing himself to be a hospital staff, an unidentified person took the infant into the ward for giving polio and he did not return.
“Till evening, Hara has not been able to trace her nephew after frantic search of the entire department. She is also not able to properly recollect the person, who took the baby from her,” said a police officer, quoting the baby’s father, who is the meantime arrived in the Hospital after getting the news.
