Now, fake tea dust unit busted in Cuttack

Published on:

As the raids on adulterated food manufacturing units continue in Cuttack city and its adjoining places, the local civic authorities and police parties on Wednesday stumbled upon a fake tea dust packaging unit at Mukameswar village under the Cuttack Sadar police station.“At least 50 quintals of adulterated tea and huge quantities of packaging materials having branded companies’ stickers pasted on them were seized from the fake unit,” informed local police inspector Sudhansu Bhusan Jena. He said one person was being questioned after detention in this connection.

Food inspectors of the civic body after inspecting the adulterated products said dusts of dry leaves of pot cassia (Chakunda) and papaya are added to sawdust for making the adulterated tea packets which doesn’t have any aroma of tea. The unit was engaged in these unscrupulous trade practices for years. The ongoing joint raids have so far unearthed several such units, which were engaged in packaging adulterated food items like ghee, spice powders, edible oil, soya chunks and pan masala.

Official sources indicated that such raids by the civic authorities would continue to bust the fake manufacturing units in the city and its neighbourhood.
