For ban on Vesha of Goddess Bimala during Dussehra
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has issued a notice, seeking objections from the public as well as the Sevayats in regard to its intention to amend clause II Page No.236 of the Srimanadir Record of Rights and include therein a new sentence.
It is, “As in the Maa Bimala Mandira inside the Shree Jagannath Temple, non-veg food items are being offered to the Goddess in Dussehra festival on Maha Saptami, Maha Astami and Maha Nabami days, no Vesha (special decoration) of the Goddess will be held on these three days except specified and already listed 11 types of Vesha of the deity to be held on other days during Solapuja period.”
The SJTA has taken a tough stand in the matter and proposes that the amendment in the Record of Rights would help maintain discipline in the shrine. Notably, some unruly servitors of the Maa Vimala Mandir in the past disobeyed the administrative orders and forcefully made decorations of the deity on the three days illegally.
The administration has given a 30-day notice for receiving written objections in the matter after which the proposal will be sent to the Government for approval. If approved, the change will be effective in this year’s Dussehra, said sources.
