Industry and mine-rich Talcher continued to suffer under intensive heat wave since Monday as temperature soar to 45 degree Celsius, throwing normal life out of gear.
After 10 am life comes to a standstill at most of the places. Markets, offices and other public places are seen lonely. According to environmentalists, massive industrialisation, huge mining of coal and burning of coal by thermal power plants are the prime cause of the rising temperature. The use of refrigerators and air conditioned machines
in almost each office and house is another cause of the extreme heat condition also.
There are 12 coal mines and three big thermal power plants in and around Talcher. But it is a matter of regret that no environmental precautions are being carried by these corporate houses.
Due to heavy mining, deforestation takes place at large scale, but no eye catching plantations are being taken up to restore greenery and a healthy local atmosphere.
The local inhabitants raise their voice against the apathy to Talcher, but in vain. Talcher is the top most polluted area but the locals are yet to get the minimum amenities.
The huge coal stock yard absorb the sun ray and heat of the area and add up to the heat by radiation. Thousands of heavy vehicles are engaged to transport of coal in the mining area every day causing air and dust pollution and pushing up atmospheric heat.
The high temperature is also attributed to burning of lakhs of tons of coal in yards.
Social activist Parsuram Das and DebaranjanSamal have raised serious concern over the matter and demanded intervention of the administration.
