Activists of the BJD Mahila Morcha on Wednesday held a protest rally near the Raj Bhavan here opposing the hike in the rate of non-subsidised cooking gas (lPG) by Rs 61.50 per cylinder. Activists led by Morcha president and Binjharpur MlA Pramila Malik blasted the Union Government for the price hike.

Most women MlAs of the party and other senior leaders participated in the protest rally.

Addressing the gathering, Malik, whose remark on providing Amar ladoos (immortal sweets) to the farmers had triggered a State-wide uproar, also targeted the opposition parties for terming all the death cases as farmer suicide.

“Whenever one dies, they dub it as farmer suicide without knowing the exact cause of the death,” said Malik.

Instead of branding all deaths as farmer suicides, the BJP and the Congress should ask the Centre for help and do something for Odisha,” Malik remarked.
