The filing of nomination papers for the three-tier panchayat election, including the Subarnapur Zilla Parishad (ZP) council began on Wednesday on a dismal note even as three major political parties after initial hiccups claimed to have finalised candidates for all the 13 ZP seats.
With the starting of the nomination process on day one, the different panchayat and block offices become active here. There are 109 panchayat and 13 ZP zones in Subarnapur district. On the day, 18 sarpanches, seven samiti members, 50 ward members and only a ZP member have filed their nomination papers.
Purna Chandra Bishi from ZP zone-2 under Sonepur block has been nominated on behalf of the BJP. The BJD, BJP and the Congress are facing difficulties in finalising suitable candidates, a fact which the party leaders refrain from openly admitting it.
