No terror link in Puri train fire: NIA

Six months after the train fire mishap at the Puri railway station, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), probing the incident, on Tuesday submitted its report ruling out any terrorist involvement in the mishap.

In its closure report filed at the Khordha District and Sessions Judge Court hereon Tuesday, the Central investigating agency has maintained that the accused Ramchandran Subhas is a mentally-disordered person, who was arrested from the spot following the mishap, set fire to the train on his own and no one else was involved in the incident.

In its report submitted at the court, the NIA also urged to shift the case to the Puri SDJM Court, where the case was earlier being heard.

Meanwhile, sources said the Union Home Ministry has directed the NIA to hand over the case to the Puri Government Railway Police (GRP) to probe under various sections of IPC lodged against Subhas.

Sources said the NIA has dropped charges like sedition against Subhas.

Notably, the major fire broke out on November 3 last, in which at least five bogies of three empty stationary trains were damaged one after the other. A high-level probe was ordered following the incident. Accused Subhas was arrested in this connection from the spot soon after the incident.
