In a major embracement to the State Government, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) on Monday directed the Government not to take any stringent action against the suspended IPS officer Satish Gajbhiye.
According to sources, the directive would remain intact till further order of the CAT.
The sources added that the CAT fixed December 1 as the next date of hearing of the case.
The State Government suspended the 2002-batch IPS officer Satish Gajbhiye, the then SP of Kendrapada, on August 13, six days after the alleged police brutality on people demonstrating against self-styled Sarathi Baba alias Santosh Raul in Kendrapada.
Recently, the Central Government has confirmed the suspension of Gajbhiye as per the All India Services Rules, after which draft charges have been framed against him.
last month, Home Secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy had informed that Gajbhiye has been served the draft charges through the Director General of Police (DGP), to which he would have to respond within 30 days.
Notably, the demonstrators, who had gathered at the Tinimuhani Square demanding an immediate arrest of Sarathi were brutally beaten forced to kneel down on road by the police forces led by Gajbhiye.
