The Odisha Surakhya Sena on Tuesday urged President Pranab Mukherjee to serve a show-cause notice to Vice-President Hamid Ansari for not saluting the National Flag on the Republic Day while PM Modi and Defence Min Manohar Parrikar in his presence paid their respect to the Tricolour.
“Out of all dignitaries present, USA president Barak Obama, who was the chief guest on the occasion and Vice President Hamid Ansari were spotted not saluting the national flag. As the US president is not a citizen of India, it is optional for him to whether to salute or not. But Hamid Ansari with the full capacity of Vice President of India holds the second highest constitutional pose of the country next to the President for which it is mandated upon him to pay respect to the national flag,” said Sena president Abhishek Joshi.
