The Right to Food Campaign, Odisha has alleged that even though two years have elapsed since the implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), nearly 10 lakh poor people are yet to receive their ration cards in the State.
“Under the NFSA, the State Government has set a target to provide ration cards to 3.26 crore people of the State. However, it has succeeded in distributing cards to 3,16,78,962 people in last two years,” Right to Food Campaign, Odisha chief Pradip Pradhan told reporters here.
He charged that though the State Government has announced to refund the amounts collected from “undeserving beneficiaries” as fine, the same is yet to be done even after four months have passed after the announcement.
He demanded immediate formation of district level monitoring committees for a smooth implementation of the NFSA, other social security schemes and also Midday Meal and schemes under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) in the State.
