No ramp, lift in multi-storied Baleswar DHH

The patients admitted in the medicine ward of the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) are experiencing untold woes as the establishment lacks either a lift or ramp when both male and female wards are in first and second floors, respectively.

The aged patients as well as their attendants find it very difficult to climb the stairs while for the serious patients, it is a tough task to carry them in stretcher to the upstairs for admission and also to bring them down for different investigations which are done in the ground floor.  It may be noted the female medicine ward is on the second floor in the three-storied building.

Ever since the hospital was upgraded to a medical college and hospital (MCH), the patients’ inflow to the ward has increased.

Reports said  although construction for a lift as well as a ramp was undertaken by the DHH two years ago, neither of them is available for service.

As a consequence, the attendants of the patients have to lift their patients on stretchers to their beds. To carry a patient with a stretcher while four persons are required, the patients who come from far-off places or outside the State don’t have own persons to carry in stretcher to the top floor. By and large, the patients as well as their attendants suffer on account of non-availability of ramp and lift at a time while them medicine ward has a capacity of accommodating about 200 patients.

CDMO Dulalsen Jagdeo said installation of lift and ramp was assigned to the PWD and the work was under progress.

An official in the Works department said Rs 18 lakh was sanctioned for the purpose. While the ramp work is almost completed, for the lift, a fresh tender has been invited for supplying machineries as well as erecting them, he added.
