No Question Hour in Assembly for 9th day

Published on:

The State Assembly could not conduct Question Hour for a consecutive ninth day and was adjourned twice till 3 pm on Wednesday as Congress members protested rejection of their Adjournment Motion and BJP members objected the State Government’s alleged noncooperation with the CAG in conducting audits into expenses relating to the Biju Yuva Vahini.

Opposition members rushed into the Well of the House and shouted slogans raising their respective issues as soon as the House met for the day. Unable to run the proceedings, Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat adjourned that House at 10.30 am till 11.30 am.

At 11.30 am, BJP Legislature Party Leader KV Singh Deo alleged that though the Deputy Accountant General office had sought a letter to the Sports and Youth Services Secretary seeking to audit all expenses relating to the Biju Yuba Bahini, the department has avoided the request saying all officials are busy for preparations relating to the upcoming Odisha Men’s Hockey World. He demanded that the Government cooperate with the CAG to conduct an audit in the Biju Yuva Bahini expenses.

At this time, Congress members rushed into the Well of the House and shouted slogans against the State Government and the Chief Minister for rejection of the Adjournment Motion titled “Indiscipline governance going on in the State; only god can protect people.”

On the other side, BJD member Sameer Ranjan Dash raised the Abhijit Iyer Mitra issue and brought derogatory remarks made by him to the notice of the Speaker and demanded action against him.

Amid sloganeering, Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat adjourned the House till 3 pm. Seven Bills were passed in the afternoon session in absence of Opposition members.
