No protest to Idco's boundary wall at Posco site

The ongoing Idco’s boundary wall construction at the proposed Posco site at Nuagaon village under Erasama block has been running smoothly on the third consecutive day on Tuesday.

The district administration and police have made elaborate arrangements for maintaining law and order, as there are instances of stray opposition by a few villagers.

On the other hand, sources added that a few villagers who had sacrificed land during Posco land acquisition held in the year 2013 have expressed displeasure at delay in compensation payment.

In this regard, the villagers have convened a meeting under leadership of Nuagon Panchayat Sarpanch Bidyadhar Mallick on Tuesday to take a stand on the Idco’s construction works there, sources revealed.

The boundary wall construction work was started by Idco on May 18 at Dadhibaban  Pada in Nagaon village in presence of officials, including the local Tehasildar and police, but the construction company which had been assigned the works had deferred construction due to its difficulties. However, it resumed work on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Idco authority has cleared that the proposed boundary wall construction would be held in the acquired 2,700 acre Government land which had been retrieved from encroachers’ clutch for the proposed Posco project. When the Posco shelved the project, the State Government has decided that the land would be preserved in land bank for future industrial purpose, informed Idco official Ravindra Mohapatra.

On the other hand, the locals have not immediately responded to the Idco’s boundary wall construction but public resentments is brewing as it is still not clear as to who the land is to be given to and which industrial project would be come up in the region in future, informed pro Posco leader from Nuagaon village Tamil Pradhan.
