No power for 22 hrs in Baripada med college

The newly-established Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital here had to function without electricity for about 22 hours on Monday, creating water scarcity in its premises and forcing patients and attendants to sweat in the ongoing severe heat conditions.

According to information, the situation arose as a transformer, specially installed for the medical college was burnt all of a sudden in the morning. The emergency generator of the hospital could only prove to be a poor substitute.

Consequently, most of the lights and fans remained off through the day and drinking water supply stopped. A reign insecurity and panic prevailed among the patients and their attending relatives as the worrisome situation continued till 11 pm when the electricity power supply was finally restored. Denizens now hold the “indifferent attitude” of the electricity department and the medical college authorities responsible for this sorry state of affairs that patients had to face.
