Alleging police inaction against influential a ruling BJD MlA, a BJP leader from Tirtol in Jagatsinghpur district has approached the Orissa High Court seeking an inquiry against the legislator by an independent investigating agency.
Ramakant Mallick, who unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Assembly elections on a BJP ticket, has mentioned in his petition that Cuttack-Barabati MlA Debashis Samantray personally led a group of antisocial elements in attacking BJP sympathisers at Tirtol during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Paradip on February 7.
Annexing photographs showing Samantray’s involvement in attack on BJP workers, the petitioner alleged that his representations to the Chief Minister, Home Secretary, DGP and the district SP to take cognisance of the allegations have remained unanswered so far.
“Although an FIR has been filed against Debashis Samantray, the Tirtol police are not able to garner courage to take action against the Bahubali legislator, who is believed to be protected by the Chief Minister,” said the petitioner’s advocate PK Parhi.
