The resurgence in the Covid-19 cases in the State capital has sparked fears of night curfew and lockdown among the residents.
However, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary on Thursday clarified that nothing of that sort is on the cards for the time being.
He said, “Cases are on the rise, but we are fully alert. For the time being, we are not planning for any night curfew, shutdown and lockdown.
Rather, we are focusing on strict enforcement, micro containment and generating awareness to curb transmission of the virus. We have joined hands with the Commissionerate police to tighten the enforcement.”
Chaudhary further said that after the State Government announced suspension of offline classes for Classes-IX 9 and X1 students, the authorities of both Government and residential educational institutions have been directed to ensure that students vacate the hostels as soon as possible.
He reiterated that entry of general public into various Government offices has been restricted.
He informed that the number of beds at the SUM Hospital, the only Covid Hospital currently functioning in Bhubaneswar, has been increased to 250 from 150.
Besides, those hospitals with which the Government had signed agreements to provide treatment to infected patients would be reengaged if situation arises, he said.
The capital city has been reporting over 100 single-day cases for the last two days.
