No move for privatisation: Nalco

Unions and associations of the Nalco went on a wildcat strike at its smelter unit in Angul on Tuesday without giving prior notice in protest against what they said that the company is going to privatise.

The company management, however, came out with a Press release that it is but a rumour that the Nalco is going to be disinvested and privatised.

The management issued an appeal to all unions, associations and employees clarifying that at present there is no proposal for privatisation of the company. Apart from loss of production, the paramount concern is safety of employees and equipments since flash strikes in a thermally sensitive unit, it said.

The company has already informed the State Government and the Angul district administration requesting them to extend all assistance to keep the plants running and maintain law and order, the release added.
