No motion on farmer issues: Assembly Question Hour stalled

Published on:

The Question Hour could not be conducted in the State Assembly and the House was adjourned twice for over an hour as Congress members protested non-acceptance of an Adjournment Motion on farmer issues for discussion.

As the Assembly met at 10.30 am, Congress member Tara Prasad Bahinipati demanded to know from the Speaker why the Adjournment Motion given by the Opposition was not accepted while it had earlier been decided that two Adjournment Motions would be taken up each day for discussion.

As Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro didn’t respond, Bahinipati along with other Congress members rushed into the Well of the House and shouted slogans against the Government.

Unable to run the Question Hour, the Speaker adjourned the House at 10.34 am till 11.30 am. As the same situation continued, the Speaker adjourned the House for 15 minutes and called an all-party meeting. Later, the House functioned normally.
