The Twin City Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr RP Sharma on Saturday said the police would follow very strict guidelines regarding use of loudspeakers and other sound instruments during any marriage functions and festivals including Durga Puja and Kali Puja in the twin city.
During a meeting with members of all light and sound associations along with band party and DJ associations, Dr Sharma advised them not to violate the norms of sound range and not to create any sound pollution in 100-metre periphery of prohibitory areas of the city including educational institutions, medicals, courts, places clamped with Section 144 of CrPC.
He warned the members not to cross the limit of sound that is 65 decibel while playing their sound sections during festival or any marriage procession. He also clarified them not to play their loudspeakers between sharp 10pm and 6am. “If you fail to obey the rule, we will seize your instruments and take action against you for violating law,” he added.
Dr Sharma told the members to install sound limiter in their amplifiers in order to stop the sound pollution problem. Inspector-in-charges of all the police stations would carry physical inspection to check whether the band party or DJ owners have installed the sound limiter or not. “If the IICs get any discrepancy, they will seize the instrument on the spot,” he added.
The CP also warned the light and sound owners to stop using laser lights or flash lights during marriage processions or festivals as it create distraction for the pilots while landing the flights in the city airport.
