No irrigation facility: Tigiria brinjal crops hit

Published on:

The brinjal farming of Tigiria block has been grossly affected due to lack of proper irrigation provision. According to reports, in almost all the ten gram panchayats of Tigiria block, there are no irrigation facilities.

As the water bodies like ponds, wells and other water channels the farmers are dependent on for irrigation have dried due to the onset of summer, vegetable crops, especially brinjal, have been adversely hit.

Notably, brinjal plants have been grown in over a hundred acres of farm land in the area. Since there is no water for irrigation, the plants have started to wilt. Consequently, the farmers are set to bear a great financial loss.

Tigiria is famous for vegetable farming which caters to the need of Athagarh, Tigiria, Dhenkanal, Talcher and Bhubaneswar consumers. However, the price of brinjal was Rs7 to Rs10 per kg in the last week.
