There would be no ‘Ravana Podi’ and procession for immersion of idols during the Durga Puja celebration this year. A decision to this effect was taken during a discussion between the Puja Committees of the twin city and the Commissionerate police here on Monday.

It was decided that Durga idols would be worshipped at Puja pandals closed from all sides. No visitor would be allowed to pay obeisance to the goddess at pandals. A detailed guideline would be issued by the Commissionerate police in a few days, informed Commissioner of Police Sudhansu Sarangi.

Besides, the Puja pandals would be allowed to set up idols not more than 4-5 feet. No decoration and lightning of the pandals would be permitted. Only 10 members of each Puja Committee would be allowed at the pandals.

The necessary rituals of the goddess would be performed. The Puja Committees would conduct the rituals adhering to the Covid-19 guidelines, informed Bhubaneswar Immersion Committee secretary Dilip Mohanty.

Minister Ashok Panda who was present at the meeting said there are restrictions of decoration and immersion procession.

Notably, this year, the Durga Puja will begin from October 22.
