There are no high schools in as many as 436 gram panchayats in the State, informed School and Mass Education (S&ME) Minister Samir Ranjan Dash on Wednesday.

Dash said this in the State Legislative Assembly while replying to a question raised by BJP MLA Bhabani Shankar Bhoi.

“Odisha has a total of 8,076 high schools; and 436 panchayats have no high schools at all. However, existing upper primary schools in these panchayats are being transformed into high schools. Moreover, new high schools are being set up based on requirements and with approval of the Central Government, in some of the panchayats where there are no high schools,” the Minister stated.
