No Govt sops for widow, disabled daughter

Published on:

A poor  widow  is  yet  to  get  any  benefit  under welfare  schemes and has been languishing in a wretched condition along with her disabled daughter, grandson and granddaughter in Sundargah district.

Sanaki  Surin (80) resides in a hut  at  Badunjharia  village under Giringkela  panchayat  under  lepripada  block. Her husband had passed  away five  years  ago.  After  the  death of   her  husband, Sanaki’s  daughter Sambari  had married  to  one  Anam  Bilung   of Humrei  village.  After  the  marriage,  Sambari  had  to  suffer  a lot   in  her  in-laws  house  as  her  husband  Anam  Bilung  used to  beat  her  up  regularly.

After  the  birth  of  a  son  also,  Anam  used  to  beat  Sambari . Finding  no  other  alternative,  Sambari  along with  her  son  had returned  to  her  mother’s  house.  After  one  year,  Sambari suffered  from  paralysis following  which her  two legs  and  two hands  stopped  working. But  Sambari  could  not go  for  treatment because  of  poverty. She had given birth to a daughter there.  Poor Sanaki  along with  her  disabled  daughter  Sambari  and  her grandson  and  granddaughter  are living miserably as they do  not have a  house  to  stay  and  a source of livelihood.

Recently,  a  cousin  brother  of  Sambari  has  given  shelter  to these  four  persons in  his  house. Sambari  is  only  getting  Rs 300 per month as  disabled  pension, while Sanaki  is yet  to  get widow  pension.  She has not  been covered  under  BPl  category due to  which  she  is  not  getting   rice at Re1 per  kilo.  Panchayat and  block  officials  have  failed  to  identify her  to  give  her a  house  under  Biju  Pucca  Ghar  or  PMAY.

“I  have  recently  told  the PEO  to  provide  all  Government welfare  schemes  to  Sanaki  Surin,” said lepripada  BDO Punam Binita  Bage, when contacted.
