No fee to convert agri land to homestead for poultry unit

The State Government has exempted stamp duty on purchase of land for conversion of agricultural field to homestead land meant for poultry farming.

Fisheries and Animal Resources Secretary Bishnupada Sethi on Thursday said that in a move to boost the poultry sector, the Government has decided that farmers would not have to pay fee for conversion of their agricultural land to homestead land for establishment of poultry farms.

Sethi revealed that as per the new order issued recently by the Department of Revenue & Disaster Management, a farmer would have only to submit an application in the prescribed form to an authorised officer for conversion of any agricultural land belonging to him for the purpose.

This step is taken by the Government as mentioned at the Para-5 (b) of the Odisha Poultry Policy 2015 introduced by the Fisheries and Animal Resource Development Department.

According to the Odisha Poultry Policy, farmers would be given assistance like leasing of Government land to set up poultry farms and feed mixing plants which are considered as captive units.

“The incentives like lower electricity tariff, exemption of VAT, upper cap of Rs 75 lakh for establishment of poultry farm and Rs 50 lakh for establishment of a broiler farm are available towards capital investment subsidy under the Agriculture Policy - 2013,” envisaged in the policy.

The Government has sought help from ancillary industries pertaining to poultry farming to derive opportunities from the new policy and encourage grassroots-level farmers to scale up production.

The main objective of the poultry policy is to produce 100 lakh eggs per day and one lakh tonnes of poultry meat annually.
