The State Government has not taken action against any of spurious medicine distributor or quack in the last five years.

It was revealed from the information furnished by Health and Family Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak in the Assembly in response to a question of BJP MlA Dr Bibhuti Bhushan Harichandan.

While Harichandan wanted to know the number of fake medicine distributors and quacks against whom the Government has filed cases in last five years, the Minister said action would be certainly taken if the Government receives any such complaint.

The Minister, however, informed that Drug Inspectors have been regularly conducting raids on medicine stores and taking actions to stop sale of fake medicines as per the 22 and 23 sections of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Besides, the Government has constituted taskforces both at district and State levels to check sale of spurious medicines.
