Third case comes to fore
Even as the State Assembly is rocked over the illegal kidney sale under the garb of donation, a fresh case of kidney sale has surfaced in Cuttack. Although no FIR has been lodged yet in the fresh instance unlike the previous two cases, reports said the racket dealing in this unethical practice very much thrives here and surfacing of more such cases in near future cannot be ruled out.
like the two previous cases under the scanner of the city police now, the victim in this third case is also a poor woman, whose family is also dogged under acute debt trap. This goes on to establish the fact that the rackets operating the illegal trade in organs are targeting a particular section of people to sustain their business.
Notwithstanding the perception that the illegal trades are slowly coming out in the open due to breach of contract, the poor donors turn out to be the victims as they are not paid the promised amount in exchange of their vestigial but precious organ. While the two previous cases were reported from Naik Sahi of Mangalabag, the third one is reported from the Friends’ Colony locality.
In one of the cases from Mangalabag, the police have already arrested at least five persons in this connection, including director of a Vishakhapatnam-based private hospital N Prabhakar Babu. Although the arrested director’s wife has moved the Odisha High Court alleging that her “innocent” husband is illegally detained by the police, the matter is still under adjudication. The High Court on Tuesday had directed the State Government to submit its report on the matter so that the next hearing of the case would be taken up on Thursday.
