The Regional Office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Wednesday said that no forecast has been issued regarding a possible cyclone and urged people not to panic due to rumours.

“No information or forecast has been issued by the Meteorological Department regarding the cyclone,” the IMD tweeted.

IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said there is no threat of cyclone to Odisha in the next seven days.

“There is no possibility of formation of cyclone over the Bay of Bengal in the next seven days. So there is no threat,” Mohapatra said

He said another cyclonic circulation may form over north Andaman Sea and neighbourhood of Bay of Bengal around October 17 or 18. The system will also move west-northwestward towards the southern part of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

“As per our analysis, there are no chances of intensification of the system into a cyclone” he said.

Only a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal, a forecast on which was issued last Thursday. A forecast would be issued on the system on October 14 and further update would be shared.

So far, the prediction is that the cyclonic circulation would form over the Bay of Bengal, but the exact date and area where it would develop has not been predicted yet, the IMD said.

The State Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) also urged the media not to report any such news that would create panic among people. "If we get any information from IMD, Bhubaneswar, definitely we shall share with you all," added the Joint SRC.
