To check spread of coronavirus due to harmful effects of the firecracker fumes, the State Government on Tuesday prohibited sale and bursting of crackers from November 10 to 30.Wide-scale cracker bursting is especially witnessed during Diwali celebration, which is scheduled on November this year.A notification regarding the ban on crackers was issued by the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office. “Though Covid cases have plummeted, still the danger is very much present in the State.
The winter season is approaching during which the elderly, children, persons with co-morbidities and others develop respiratory problems,” read the notification.Every year, people start bursting firecrackers even before Diwali which continues even after the Kartika Purnima festival.
The incessant bursting of crackers releases copious amount of harmful fumes-nitrous oxide, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide, which severely impact people having respiratory problems and the other vulnerable groups.
Such pollutants can further aggravate health conditions of Covid-19 positive persons, said the notification.
