The State Government has not been able to collect fines to the tune of `63,119 crore on mine leaseholders due to an interim stay order of Mine Tribunal under the Union Ministry of Mines, said Mines Minister Prafulla Mallick while replying to a question of Dilip Ray in the Assembly on Friday.
Mallick said the fines were imposed as per the provision of the MMDR Act where the leaseholders raised, transported and distributed minerals not within their respective mining area limits.
However, the fines could not be collected since 2008 as about 140 cases have been filed by the aggrieved miners who have been imposed fines with the Mining Tribunal.
The cases have not been disposed of yet while the tribunal has issued stay on the matter through an interim order, the Minister said.
He further said that the State Government had on November 19 last urged the Union Mines Ministry for lifting the stay and disposing of the pending cases without further delay.
Mallick said that a case in this regard was filed in the Supreme Court in 2014 and the matter is subjudice. He gave an account of how much money is pending as fines with which leaseholder in the House.
