lakhs of rupees are being sanctioned by the State Government for development of schools, but in Bargaon block here more than 10 school buildings are incomplete, forcing students to study in verandahs.Sources said Rs3.70 lakh had been sanctioned under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) for the construction of additional class rooms of Dhangli village's primary school in the year 2010, but the entire amount was siphoned off by the Headmaster and School Managing Committee (SMC) president.
Similarly, for Itma UP School's class room construction, Rs3.70 lakh had been sanctioned under the SSA, but after four years, there is no sign of any construction works. As a result, the students are studying in two old class rooms and in rainy season when the rain water gushes into class room, they attend classes on the verandah of the school. It is alleged that Rs2.70 lakh was bungled by the Headmaster and SMC president. In yet another instance, the construction work of additional class rooms of Siamal Primary School and Padmapur Project High School has been going on for last eight years. Here, also the fund was misappropriated.
Schools of Baibai, Manaharpur and Petaphod villages are unfinished with works either very slow or not taken up. Several schools’ construction work of kitchen and toilet too lies unfinished. According to sources, there are over 10 schools under Bargaon block which are facing similar situation.SSA District Project Coordinator Amulya Kumar Pradhan said, “We have asked the Block Education Officer of Bargaon to give us a report on the issue and accordingly, we will take action.”
