In yet another instance, a pregnant woman delivered her baby near a drain in the premises of the Koraput District Headquarters Hospital on Friday after the medical staffs denied her a checkup as she had forgotten to bring the required prescription.

The woman and the newborn baby girl remained unattended near the drain for around half an hour before they were rescued and admitted to the hospital.

According to reports, Dimai (32) of Janiguda village under Mastiput panchayat in Koraput block had come to the hospital with her ailing husband Raghu Muduli in the morning.

After Raghu’s treatment, Dimai complained of labour pain and told about it to a nurse. However, the nurse asked her for the required Mamata Yojana beneficiary card and prescription which she hadn’t brought with her. The staff told her to bring the documents for checkup.

Moments after, the woman went towards a toilet in the hospital premises but sat near a drain due to excess labour pain and delivered the baby.

After around 30 minutes, her husband noticed the incidence and informed the hospital authorities, following which she and the baby were hospitalised.
