Despite the intervention of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), neither the State Government nor the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken measures to ensure basic facilities like drinking water and proper road for the Rajkumar slum at Satyanagar here.
last month, disabled rights activist Sanyas Behera had moved the PMO seeking its intervention to facilitate drinking water, proper road connectivity and houses to around 500 dwellers residing at the Rajkumar slum located just a few metere from the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) office.
Acting on the petition, the PMO on August 25 instructed the State General Administration Department to act proactively in sorting out the problems being faced by the slum dwellers, including a large number of disabled people.
“Around a fortnight has elapsed since the PMO instructed the GA Department to act (on our petition). Unfortunately, neither a single GA Department official nor BMC officials have visited the slum till date,” rued Behera.
He alleged that no change in the slum has taken place even after the PMO’s intervention.
Besides the drinking water problem, the slum has no drainage facility, dumping yard and other civic facilities, pointed out Behera.
