The Odisha High Court on Friday refused interim bail to arrested chit fund scam accused Ranjan Das, who was seeking bail to go outside the State for oral cancer treatment.
Instead, the court asked Das, who is now diagnosed to be in a precancerous stage, to undergo treatment at the Regional Cancer Centre in Cuttack.Pronouncing his verdict, Justice Raghuvir Das posted the matter for further hearing in the first week of January.Notably, the High Court had earlier sought a status report from the Cancer Centre in which it was mentioned that Das was not suffering from cancer as stated in his application.
A close confidant of arrested MlA Pravat Tripathy, Ranjan Das was arrested by the CBI earlier this year for his alleged links with chit fund company Artha Tatwa (AT) Group and its CMD Pradeep Sethy. Along with expelled BJD leader Tripathy and Sethy, Das has also been named as an accused in the preliminary chargesheet filed by the CBI.
