The Government-run Biju Patnaik Homoeopathy Medical College here has got a major jolt as the Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH) has stopped giving it permission for admission into 25 BHMS seats for 2016-17 academic year citing lack of adequate infrastructure and teaching and nonteaching staffs in the college.
The college authorities received a letter from the CCH in this regard on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, students expressed strong resentments over the development and threatened to take to the street soon.
According to information, the CCH had to give permission for admission into the 25 BHMS seat in the college from this year. Accordingly, the college authorities had been asked to put in place infrastructure and appoint required numbers of teaching and nonteaching staffs for 25 BHMS seats by December 2014.
On June 27, 2016, a CCH team visited the college and found that no Professor post was filled up and five Reader and many lecturer posts were vacant. Similarly, there were no indoor facility, doctors’ duty room, pathology room and labour room in the college. The college too lacked a Central registration and adequate number of nurses, Though the college lacked the above facilities required for availing of admission for five years, yet it was expecting that the CCH would provide permission for the current year only. However, the denial worried students a lot.
In protest, functionaries of the Sardar Ballav Bhai Multipurpose Association staged a dharna in front of the Ram Kumar Patra Homoeopathy College for a few hours.
