Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahi has served show cause notices on as many as 98 colleges on the issue of students not taking interest to seek admission in the Plus Two courses in these institutions during the current academic year.

This year, 18 Junior Colleges did not receive any online application in any stream. While no enrolment was recorded in 10 colleges in the Science stream, there was no admission in Commerce in six colleges and in Arts in two colleges.

Panigrahi said that after examining the reports sought from the colleges in question, appropriate action would be taken against them.

The Government would go into the aspects relating to teachers’ strength, infrastructure and teaching standard in the respective colleges, he said.

The Minister also said, he has convened a meeting of Vice-Chancellors of the universities, Principals of some lead Degree Colleges in Bhubaneswar to ensure quality education in the Plus Three streams.

The basic problems in the colleges are maintaining quality teaching, existing infrastructure and maintaining law and order in the campuses, which should be discussed thoroughly, he said. He said a comprehensive education policy will be laid down to ensure everyone follows the directions.
