A team of the National Monuments Authority (NMA) on Thursday inspected the renovation of four mutts located within 100 meters of the Meghanada Pacheri of Shreemandir in Puri.

The team inspected the renovation works of Badachhata Mutt, Chhauni Mutt, Uttaraparswa Mutt and Kakudikhai Mutt.

Culture Department Director Dilip Routray, Puri Sub-Collector, Chief of Puri Circle ASI and Chief of State Archaeological Department were part of the NMA team.

Routray said that other than the beautification of the mutts, no other construction work would be made in the prohibited area.

“As per the NMA guidelines, the four mutts located within the prohibited area could only be renovated and repaired. No new construction can be carried out within the area,” said he.

“There has been no violation of NMA guidelines in the renovation works. The redevelopment of four mutts is carried out as per the guidelines issued by the NMA,” he added.

Earlier, the NMA had issued no objection certificates (NOCs) to the State Government for the redevelopment of 15 mutts around the Jagannath Temple that were demolished as part of the Shree Jagannath Parikrama project.
