NKS to take farmers' issue at nat'l level

The Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) on Friday criticised the State’s all three major political parties - the BJD, BJP and the Congress  - alleging that they are using the farmers as pawns to increase their vote banks and are not really interested in farmer’s welfare.

The Sanghathan called upon the farmers not to get biased by the political parties rather to get united to fight for their legitimate rights.

“Over 5,000 farmers from each block would gherao the Government at district headquarters soon. Then we will take up the issue to the national level,” State convenor Akshaya Kumar told a Press conference here.

Kumar alleged that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ridiculously gave his party’s support to the NDA’s Presidential nominee responding to a single call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is not giving time to meet the Assembly Committee for presentation of a proposal to increased paddy MSP to Rs 2,930 per quintal of paddy and him (Patnaik) to discuss the Mahanadi issue.

They too criticized BJD MPs for taking up paddy MSP issue in the Parliament.

Kumar too equally slammed the BJP for not taking up the two issues with the Prime Minister when he was here for party’s national meet. He also blamed the Congress for using the farmers for political gains.

He informed that the Sangathan would be recognised as a national forum on the birth anniversary of Jayaprakash Narayan on October 11 this year.

He said the Sangathan and other organisations would gherao the Niti Aayog office on July 3 in New Delhi and also gherao the 20 district headquarters in coming days demanding to implement pension for farmers and payment of MSP of Rs 2,930 per quintal of paddy.

Among others, Sangathan State assistant secretaries Sesadev Nanda and Dr Kulamani, Nimai Ray, Manohar Ali and Durga Prasad Das were present.
