NKS gives Rs2.40 lakh to dead farmers' kin

Published on:

At a time when the State Government has asserted that not a single farmer has committed suicide due to crop loss and loan burden, the Navanirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) on Monday provided financial assistance to the kin of 24 dead farmers, who committed suicide in last three months.

The farmers’ body provided a total of Rs2.40 lakh to 24 dead farmers’ families, each getting Rs10,000.

The Sangathan has provided the money out of its Krushak Kalyan Panthi (farmers’ welfare fund). People from different walks of life have donated money to the fund.

NKS State coordinator Akshaya Kumar said they took the step to teach a lesson to the Government which has been denying farmers’ suicide.

The money was provided at the Navanirman Krushak Sangathan’s State executive committee meeting held on Sunday and Monday.

The farmers’ body has decided to meet all the MlAs cutting across party lines fromDecember 1 to 15 urging them to raise the farmers’ problem in the Winter Session of the Assembly, failing which NKS members would go on fast for an indefinite period fromDecember 16.
