Not long ago, the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (NITR) was known its glory. But now it is being talked about for irregularities in recruitment, transfer and posting, promotion and favouritism in work award and corruption in hiring of vehicles.
Even a number of their faculty members disheartened with the irregularities in promotion have left for other institutions. Similarly, more than half a dozen of cases are already filed in the Odisha High Court against irregular activities of the authority.
A number of petitions have also been filed before the Chairperson, Board of Governors, NITR, requesting his intervention in the matter.
Besides these, now NITR is in talk for its apathy in submitting the DPR for establishment of a medical college and hospital with advanced research facility at the institution though the MHFW accepting the preliminary proposal had directed the NITR authority to submit it.
While such a reputed institution clouded with many allegations, its BoG Chairperson Dr Santrupt B Mishra visited the institution on Thursday. After visiting the institution and interacting with different stakeholders, he interacted with the media people on Friday.
Briefing the Press, he said, “In present condition, the NITR was not competent to submit the DPR though we had given the preliminary proposal which was accepted by the MHFW. The NITR is lacking infrastructure, fund, faculties, hospital which are mandatory before submitting the DPR. Besides, the NIT regulatory was another hurdle.”
Mishra however assured that by next year, the NITR would be trying to fulfill these criteria and submit the DPR for the MCH.
As regards various allegations arising against the NITR authority, he tried to avoid many questions and in some cases he replied indirectly saying that he has talked to the students, faculties and staff and noted their suggestions for the greater interest of the institution.
