Hundreds of students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, staged protest at the institute on Wednesday demanding expulsion of a security officer of NIT.
The students caught security officer Balaram Champatiray sexually harassing a woman security guard inside his office chamber. The students are having photographs and videos of the odd scene of the Champatiray while committing the act.
According to the allegations, the accused had harassed more than a dozen women who took up jobs to sustain their families. But due the fear of losing of job, they neither protested nor revealed the fact.
The agitating students demanded suspension of Champatiray and an inquiry into the whole incident.
The students of OhD and MTech carrying placards took out a rally and then held dharana in front of Director Sunil Sarangi’s chamber demanding removal of Champatiray and lodging of FIR against him.
It may be noted here that in last December Champatiray was also in controversy for putting a guard in salutary position for half an hour in main gate.
Champatiray, however, rubbished the charge and described it as a conspiracy to defame him.
Director Sarangi said the matter would be examined by a high-level committee. If Champatiray is found guilty then the disciplinary action will definitely be initiated against him, he maintained.
