Senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik on Sunday slammed the State Government for ignoring Keonjhar district’s demand for a full-fledged Government medical college.
Stating that two of the four medical college proposals approved by the Centre recently would be set up at a distance of 50 km only (Baleswar and Mayurbhanj), Patnaik lamented that Keonjhar, which contributes maximum amount of revenue to the State exchequer, has once again been ignored. “Instead of recommending a Government medical college for Keonjhar, the State Government is relying on an inexperienced and small private promoter for this medical college project, which is yet to make any headway. This is abject neglect at a time when the Shah Commission has remarked that the healthcare system in the district has worsened with environmental degradation caused by mining activities,” he said.
Patnaik called upon all political parties to fight together against the unjust treatment and neglect meted out to the district by the State Government.
