The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued conditional summons to the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP) and Mayurbhanj Superintendent of Police (SP) over the arrest of the man on charges of killing his wife who was found to be alive later. The commission took serious view of the non-responsive attitude of the State authorities and issued conditional summons to the authorities to send their report before May 18 or to appear before it on May 22. Rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy has moved the commission recently. He alleged that the Morada police in Mayurbhanj district arrested one Sukadev Naik on the charges of killing his wife lili Naik who was proved to be alive with her baby.
“As a matter of great regret and serious violation of human rights, Mandakini Dhungia the fellow villager of Sukadev was killed by her family members as a matter of honour killing. Dhungia’s family members tactfully managed the police to make it the murder case of lili Naik who was missing at that time. After the incident came to the fore the Morada police now have been targeting Sukadev Naik and others to implicate them in false cases,” said Tripathy. Tripathy alleged that the negligence of the police in investigating the case of honour killing and inaction by the concerned State authorities and consequent illegalities amounts to serious violation of basic human rights.
