Taking a serious view of the negligence of a private clinic in treating patient, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Health and Family Welfare Secretary to submit a report over death of a woman due to the negligence of Brahmapur-based Amar Clinic.
The commission has asked the Secretary to submit report within six weeks.
According to petitioner Sangita Swain, on March 18, an ailing lady identified as Savita Sahu wife of Vijay Sahu of Radhakant Sahi of Old Brahmapur was admitted to the City Hospital, Brahmapur. She was being treated by a doctor of O&G Department. The treating doctor advised the husband of the victim to shift her to a private clinic, Amar Clinic for better treatment at an affordable price.
According to the complainant, the doctor had initially charged `10,000 from the patient by giving him an impression that there was a tumor in the abdomen of the victim.
After surgery, the doctor again charged another `10,000 and the family had to spend `32,000 for the treatment at the clinic. While the victim was undergoing treatment, suddenly her husband was intimated by the clinic staff that the condition of the victim had deteriorated and she was shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Brahampur. When Vijay reached MKCG, he found that his wife was declared dead just after arrival of the victim at the hospital.
The matter was inspected jointly by DMET, ADMO (Medical), Ganjam and Superintendent of MKCG MCH, Brahmapur.
It was revealed during the inspection that the patient was attended at the City Hospital.
