The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called for an action-taken report (ATR) from the Energy Secretary and the Deogarh Superintendent of Police (SP) in connection with serious injuries caused to a man after coming in contact with a live electric wire.
Acting on a petition filed by Angul-based Human Rights Watchdog secretary Sangita Swain, the commission has asked for the ATR in four weeks.
Swain alleged that a dalit man identified as Sanjay Kumar Behera, a resident of Kaipal in Kundheigola block in Deogarh district suffered serious injuries and even lost his two legs and hands after coming in connect with unrepaired 11KV live wire.
“It violates human rights due to the inaction/unlawful action by the concerned public authority. A case was registered in this regard at the Kundheigola police station. Hence, criminal action must be taken against responsible,” urged the petitioner.
She urged the commission to initiate disciplinary/departmental proceeding against the negligent public authority and compensation of Rs25 lakh.
