NHRC seeks report from DGP in 4 weeks

Acting on a complaint filed by Puri-based RTI activist Jayant Kumar Das, the National Human Right Commission (NHRC) has sought a report from the Director General of Police (DGP) within four weeks on the death of Sukru Oram (45) of Chikatnalee village under Tikayatpali police station in Sundargarh district.

The petitioner alleged that deceased Sukru along with his friend Pheta Oram was going to his garden on June 1 evening while three police officials of Tikayatpali police station came near to them and charged that ‘why they were walking in the middle of the road.’ Following which an argument erupted and the irate cops beat Sukru brutally.

When his friend Pheta tried to restrain the cops he was also beaten. After getting the information Sukru’s son Jhadeswar shifted him to home where he died on June 2. The petitioner urged the Commission to provide adequate compensation to the kin of the deceased.

Meanwhile, the fellow villagers of Sukru threatened to resort to road blockade if the administration fails to provide compensation and taking stern action against the accused police officials.
