The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an action-taken report from the Chief Secretary over illegal trafficking of girls within four weeks.
The commission has passed the order while acting on a petition filed by Human Rights Watch (HRW) secretary Sangita Swain.According to the petitioner, the security forces recently rescued 18 girls, including a minor and arrested some dalals from Angul and Bhadrak railway stations while the dalals were trying to trafficking them with a plea to provide them jobs in different parts of India and abroad.
“Due to inaction and unlawful action by the concerned public authorities such type of shameful activities are taking place in the State regularly which violates human rights of the victims,” said the petitioner. She prayed the commission to take appropriate steps to stop the illegal trafficking of girls.
