NHRC seeks report from Angul SP on cop inaction

Dissatisfied over the police inaction despite repeated complaints and appeals over regular loot case at NTPC Kanhia market, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an action-taken report (ATR) from the Angul Superintendent of Police within eight weeks.

The Commission has passed the order acting on a complaint filed by right activist Sangita Swain recently. According to the complainant, recently dacoits looted a mobile shop of one Alekh Kumar Behura, who has opened his store with the financial assistance of State Bank of India.

“However, despite repeated appeals of Alekh to investigate the matter, the local police are yet to take any effective measures in this regard,” said the complainant, adding that the victim is in distress and even decided to commit suicide as he has no other option to repay the loan amount.

The complainant further alleged that dacoits have been looting shops at the NTPC Kaniha market on regular basis while the police are sitting idle.
