The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an action-taken report (ATR) from the School and Mass Education Department over its alleged failure to provide classrooms to more than 56 children in the Dhanaghara Project Primary School under Bonth block in Bhadrak district. The NHRC passed an order in this regard on Monday while acting on a petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer and rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy.
The students are being forced to sit in one room and are being taught by two teachers. Their rights to education have been violated. The School has been running without any school building, the petitioner alleged.
He requested the NHRC to consider the case in view of human rights violation of the students who have been suffering for the failure of the State Government and order the latter to pay compensation to all the children. The NHRC has asked the department to submit ATR within four weeks.
