The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Railway Board Chairman and Angul SP to submit an action-taken report (ATR) within eight weeks regarding death of a Class VIII student, who died in a train mishap at an unmanned level crossing at Kanuriapal on September 30, 2013.
The Intercity Express hit Sagar Sethy at Kaunriapal while he was returning from school. In a similar incident three school students and 30 cows died at the same level crossing during 2012. The Commission has passed the order on the basis of a complaint filed by Angul-based Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain.
The complainant too urged the commission to ensure `10 lakh to the kin of the deceased, besides giving order to the concerned authority to construct a check gate there.
