NHRC puts D'nal police on notice for inaction

Taking cognisance of a complaint filed by Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain that the Dhenkanal police is sitting idle on a missing report, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an action taken report (ATR) from the Dhenkanal SP within four weeks.

According to the complainant on September 2 one Tuna Sahu, a labourer, had gone missing from the Rana Sponge Factory at Kulai and subsequently a FIR has been lodged in Parjang Police station.

“But the police are yet to take any exemplary measures to trace the victim either dead or alive. The family members of the victim suspected that he died in the factory while the matter was suppressed by the police violating their human rights,” alleged the petitioner.

The petitioner urged the commission to take stringent legal action against the concerned officials.
